If our hearts are given to God, if we live in the spirit of the Gospel and of St. Francis, nothing will ever disturb our peace. We shall contribute to the peace of faithful souls and, if we suffer from those who are not children of peace, our peace will return to us to increase our merits.
~ Meditations (MD 285)
Be faithful to the commandments and the evangelical counsels, that is the way indicated by Our Lady of Good Counsel, the Seat of Wisdom; and we shall reach eternal happiness..
~ Meditations (MD 286)
Souls that are charitable, meek, patient can do good wherever they go. Let us be one of them.
~ Meditations (MD 290)
Nature always shrinks from suffering. What then can give strength to the soul in her struggle with sin, in mortification, in works of charity, and in bearing trials and humiliations? The spirit of faith, which tells us that all will pass, and that heaven will bring us the reward promised to our faith: “One who enters a combat is not crowned unless he has completed according to the rules.”
~ Meditations (MD 292)
In order to be able to bear injuries, we must be mortified and must know how to suffer. Prayer and the spirit of sacrifice will prepare us for heroic charity.
~ Meditations (MD 298)
Let us acquire the riches of contemplation and the treasures of a holy life. Let us use the innocence of our life to regulate our contemplation and place contemplation like a seal upon our entire conduct. If we do this we shall live for the Faith and if necessary suffer and die for it.
~ Meditations (MD 299)
We should derive light, strength and perseverance for our humble apostolate in the study and love of the Word of God. Above all we should know the Gospel perfectly. How can we practice a spirit that is not familiar to us? We should read at least a few verses of the Holy Gospel everyday. This is the way to advance in solid virtue ourselves and to help others to do the same.
~ Meditations (MD 316)
The faithful, peaceful soul enjoys the presence of the God of peace who dwells within her heart; she readily imparts outwardly what she possesses inwardly, viz. peace. Therefore the influence and the merits of the peaceful soul are incalculable.
~Meditations (MD392)
Shall we be heedless of the words (and example) of Jesus? When we are offended, we should courageously imitate Our Lord who forgave His executioners
Examining our hearts will show us if we nourish some antipathy or resentment. If so, then we must determine to overcome it; by looking at the crucifix every time our neighbour offends us, we shall obtain the grace of being especially charitable towards the one who causes us suffering.
~ Meditations (MD 441)
In our life, at once contemplative and active, we must realize that the interior spirit is far more important than exterior activities.
~ Meditations (MD475)
