The climate of Colombia is determined by its proximity to the Earth`s Equator predominating a tropical and isothermal climate.
Colombia`s economy is fueled by abundant natural resources, a highly literate population and relatively high-valued currency.
With approximately 43.6 million people in 2006, Colombia is the third-most populous country in Latin America, after Brazil and Mexico. The country has a diverse population that reflects its colourful history and the peoples that have populated here from ancient times to the present.
Based on various studies, more than 95% of the population adheres to Christianity, in which a huge segment of the population, between 81% and 90%, practices Roman Catholicism. About 1% of Colombians practice nature religions. Less than 1% practice Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. In general people are very loving, simple, happy, reflective, expressive and welcoming
We are six in our international community. All of us are engaged in a common mission: Education. It is an agriculture and tourist school that educate the students upto11th Std. we have a big farm where we cultivate Coffee, vegetable, and flowers. We also rear cows, chicken, and pigs and have fish culture as students have to have field experience and do projects in animal husbandry. The system of education is very different from what we have in India. The students are expected to do research from the 6th standard onwards. As part time Librarian my work is to help students in the Library to gather information and data. Most of the books in the library are e-books hence the students have to access information through the Internet. My job is to help students navigate the research sites and cull out the needed information.
Most of the students come from poor and broken families. Some parents leave the country in search of employment and the children are left with their relatives. Because of this background the children are difficult to handle at times. One needs to be very kind, compassionate, patient and loving. Over the years I learnt to be patient with myself and with others. As the years of my experience here continue I am enjoying my mission with the youth. God is blessing all my efforts and I am happy in serving His people.
To live in the International Community is a big blessing from God. I have been enriched in deepening my Charism through various experiences received from the life in the community and mission here. Community life also brings challenges and demands which enable me to unite the kenosis in my life with the kenosis of the One who has called me to follow Him. The grace and strength which I daily receive from the Eucharist, the Word of God, personal prayer and the fellowship in Community help me to face life with all the ups and downs and to live happily. I live the Charism with an attitude of gratitude to God, to Mary of the passion and to the Institute.
Empowerment of women - this was the one aim of Blessed Mary of the Passion in serving the less fortunate that led her to open educational institutions, health-care services and set up small income-generating works for women. We respond to the cry of the poor, the oppressed and the marginalized, especially the women through the same services today. We work for the integrity of creation through non-violence and eco-justice, sharing God's gifts with all.
Her farsightedness in establishing a printing press in the 19th century itself, to publish The Annals of the Institute as a means of sharing news and views with the wider public has set the trend for us to utilize the potent means of the media to communicate the compassionate face of God to all peoples thereby promoting communion and human relationships.
